Richard B. Russell State Park - 06/23/09
This was our third "Muddy Spokes Club" bicycle ride and our second of the day. This park is located on a 26,500-acre lake which makes up the border between Georgia and South Carolina. It was about a 30-minute drive from Watson Mill Bridge. This was another real mountain bike ride, a lot of it covered with gravel and the rest on a compacted soil surface. We covered 4 trails that were all connected for a total of roughly 4 miles.
There are other things to do here too, mostly centered around the huge lake...things like fishing, boating and swimming. They also have a famous 18-hole golf course and a 27-basket disc golf course on the park grounds.
Here are a couple pictures of one branch of the lake that we encountered on our mountain bike ride.
