Watson Mill Bridge State Park - 06/23/09

This was our second "Muddy Spokes Club" bicycle ride. It's located near Comer and it took us around 2 hours to get there from our Hampton home. Unlike our first ride, this one was a real mountain bike ride on a compacted soil surface. You have to do the 3 loops where "Hiking & Biking" are allowed (totaling just over 5 miles according to my odometer). You access them from the parking lot just north of the Covered Bridge - find a park map and look for the purplish/pinkish dotted lines. There are a few tough climbs and there were some tricky areas to be negotiated, including some small trees downed over the path in 5-6 places. In short, be careful and control your speed.

You'll see the "longest original-site covered bridge in the state, spanning 229 feet across the South Fork River" at this park. After your ride (or instead of your ride), you should check out the down river side of the bridge for some pretty scenery. I took a few photos which you can view here.
