Providence Canyon State Park - 05/29/09
I had been here as a teen, but didn't get a chance to hike down into the canyon then. We purchased our "Canyon Climbers Club" cards ($10 each) and then hiked down into the canyons. I think you can hike down into one of the canyons and then back out to meet the requirement, but we wanted to make sure we got our money's worth. We hiked down to the canyon floor and then went into each of the canyons. The canyon floor was very wet, so you need hiking shoes or boots and plan on getting a little muddy. After we had seen all the canyons from the bottom, we completed the loop by hiking back up to the canyon rim and got a look at them from above. We followed the trail that circled around back to our starting point. It took us about 3 hours. This really is a beautiful park with scenery you probably wouldn't expect to see in Georgia. Click here for some photos I took during our hike.
