Karate Corner - Self Defense References

These books are about Self Defense in general. They are all excellent supplements to your martial arts training.

Strong on Defense: Survival Rules to Protect You and Your Family from Crime

Strong on Defense: Survival Rules to Protect You and Your Family from Crime

This is the best book I've ever read on self defense (written by Sanford Strong, a retired San Diego Police Department officer). You need to read this book to prepare yourself mentally and to establish the necessary mindset for handling violent situations.

Note: At the time of this writing, this book is out of print and unavailable new. However, I do have a few copies of the hardcover edition and they are available for $20.   Donnie

Krav Maga: How to Defend Yourself against Armed Assault: The Original Israeli System of Self-Defense and Practical Fighting Skills

Krav Maga: How to Defend Yourself against Armed Assault: The Original Israeli System of Self-Defense and Practical Fighting Skills

This book is a good overview of the Israeli Self Defense system. Krav Maga is a good system that will enhance your skills.

Verbal Judo: The Gentle Art of Persuasion

Verbal Judo: The Gentle Art of Persuasion

I read the first edition of this book. It is taught to police officers to give them methods to diffuse bad situations before they get physical.
