Unicoi State Park - 07/25/09

We visited this park for some mountain biking. They have a famous (or notorious) mountain biking trail. They call it a 7.5 mile trail, but you'll see an 8-mile marker before you finish (?). We ran into two more experienced mountain bikers on our ride and they described it as the "most difficult trail in North Georgia". He elaborated further that it was "punishment". I agree, though I'm not sure what I was being punished for...perhaps being stupid enough to do it. If you do this one, be prepared for some serious climbing. Just when you think you're at the top, you do a switchback and there's more uphill. You get a good bit of downhill toward the end where you need it. Click here for a few photos.

Unicoi is just outside of Helen and we went on a Saturday. We got there around 8 and traffic was minimal, but as we were leaving, there were tons of people flocking into town. It didn't look like anything special was going, so you might want to do this one during the week if you can work it out.
